Skin cancer , the dark side of the Sun | Info Health

After a cold winter, everyone is happy when the first warm rays of the sun the skin. Unfortunately, the exposure to the sun for many is still too careless.

What is skin cancer and what are the ways it

Skin cancer is the umbrella term for all malignant lesions of the skin. In everyday usage, the term is often equated with a particular form of cancer, melanoma. But there is next to this form of cancer in the two other main types of skin cancer that often occur.

skin-cancer

The melanoma

Melanoma, also called ?skin cancer?, is a tumor of the pigment-producing cells of the skin, the melanocytes. These are responsible for the formation of melanin pigment, which makes our skin turn brown and so protects against damage caused by sunlight. When these cells are now but too badly damaged, there arises a melanoma. It is the most malignant form of skin cancer because it grows very rapidly and is often at an early stage metastasis. The treatment is therefore extremely important for early detection of cancer. In such cases, the melanoma can be surgically removed. In advanced disease, an immune therapy or chemotherapy may be necessary. To become a melanoma can often take several years. However, with every sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer. Melanomas are most common in people of 35 to 50 years, but the 20 to 30-year-old get on very recently.

The basal cell carcinoma

In contrast to melanoma, basal cell carcinoma metastases is almost never. This means that the disease can be cured in most cases by surgery. The ?white skin cancer,? as the basal cell carcinoma is also called forms, particularly in sunny countries the most common type of skin cancer. Most affected people are aged 60 Of age. Appearance in the basal cell carcinoma appears as a skin-colored or brown nodules with pearly luster. In severe cases, multiple nodes and merge as an ulcer bleed and break. The primary trigger for the disease, the increased UV exposure of the skin. Therefore, the basal cell carcinoma also occurs preferably on the face and neck area because these areas are almost always made from sunlight. A recognition of the condition of the man himself is often difficult, because the affected area as itch or even hurt. A dermatologist can identify the disease but often even with the naked eye.

The squamous cell carcinoma

The squamous cell carcinoma also arises primarily from excessive UV exposure of the skin, including in areas such as face, neck, arms and hands. In contrast to basal cell carcinoma, this type of tumor metastases, but settle in other organs, so it is one of the malignant tumors. Besides the skin, mucous membranes, the carcinoma in related areas (eg oral) form. Early detection is particularly important because is much easier in the early stages of healing. The precursors appear as skin-colored to reddish spots, which are covered with white scales. This can be easily removed with ointments or by a minor surgical procedure. Generally, all skin cancers are curable, but only if they are detected and treated early. Importance of regular checkups at the dermatologist, the only way to protect themselves from disease.

Moving Forward, Counterclockwise | get born

I have a vivid memory of riding in a car with my friend Meghan when I was about eight weeks pregnant with my first son.? We drove through the frozen woods of Maine in January, up and down the winding road that led us to our creative writing workshops.? ?I?ll never be one of those parents who??? I started out.

?One of those parents who??? The phrase that every non-parent has spoken before actually having children, right?? One of those parents who does that thing that I am far above/beyond/too good for.? A statement that never ends with ??tries as hard as she can to do her best by her kids.?? Nope, I was never going to be one of those parents who ??let their lives revolve around their kids.?

I don?t remember the details of what happened next in the conversation.? More blathering on about how I would continue to travel because it?s not unhealthy for kids to stay home with grandparents for a few days. ?Or I would take them with me to exotic places, where they would behave and gain global awareness while playing quietly on a beach so I could sunbathe.? I would not lose myself in my children and would continue to build up my creative, wordsmith side, too.? I would be writer first, all-consumed mother second.

And I believed it.? With all my heart, I believed it.? The words weren?t merely said to fit in with my close-knit group of brilliant writers all advancing their writing careers between the lines of teaching and bartending and college admin.? I would be a writer with kids rather than a mother who snuck in a tiny bit of time to write if she could keep her eyes open.? I would prioritize the stories that needed to speak through me.

Meghan, I?m sure, agreed.? Neither of us could really imagine a life like those parents we both knew who turned their lives inside out for their babies and then readjusted to make the new perspective permanent.? Those poor, poor people.? We knew better.

And then, as with so many other myths I sold my self before having kids, I found this one to be a victim of post-baby reality.? At first, I didn?t care.? Completely enamored with my firstborn, I eagerly gave up my time, my writing, my aspirations of exotic travel.? I could not imagine even wanting to leave N behind while I experienced new things!?? I was Mother, and adored the new perspective on my life.? Having a child was the purpose I?d simply been waiting to discover.? The second N was in my arms, I became ?one of those parents.?? I pitied my former self for being so blind to the love I would feel for my child.

I wish I could claim the process of self denial ended there, in blissful ignorance of what I might have done.? But slowly I found ? find ? myself suffocating under the weight of things I?m denying.? The words never set free on paper because I?m too tired of being needed all day.? The vacation tickets never purchased because I?m too tapped out paying for preschool and educational toys. ??The meditation I don?t take time out for because I?m too busy, too nervous, too angry after days of discipline attempts failing against the manipulation of a three-year-old.

So, I find myself searching for ways to rotate my life a few degrees back to that woman who didn?t want to give it all up for her kids.? How to find my way back to the winding Maine road in the quiet winter of creative space.? How to love my kids while loving myself in the ways I still need to be loved.? A stay at home mom whose identity doesn?t end there, and who is able to be fully present for each day with her kids because there are no gaping holes in the membrane of her own desires.? This hope can?t be just another myth I?m selling, can it?

Grief And Loss ? Exploring Death After Bereavement | Self …

Loss forces us to look upon the massive question of what occurs after death. In our modern society, with loss of life carefully hidden from us and the quest of everlasting youth predominant, we are badly equipped to cope with it when it happens.

All of us have had the experience of shedding a loved one and of people turning away from us, scared to acknowledge our loss. People we thought had been our pals disappeared within the waves of grief and we had been left alone with scant few to help us climate the storm. Those that remained with us struggled to help us, as confused as us by our personal experience. They didn?t have the answers any greater than us as to what happens after death.

Yet there are folks out there that may help us perceive the larger question. Increasingly more accounts of close to-loss of life experiences are being heard. After-loss of life communication, once considered a hallucination of grief, is now beginning to be accepted as a real, legitimate experience. Research into reincarnation, past-life recall and the increasing popularity of mediums all level to a means wherein we are able to understand what might be our largest fear. It is slowly turning into increasingly more acceptable to speak about demise and what happens afterwards. To question it in a way we never did before. We?re screaming out for our experiences to be heard and dying to understand the true nature of them.

Yet there is no such thing as a one truth about death. It?s a multi-faceted thing. Whether one person can in all honesty really perceive loss of life from solely their own expertise is doubtful. We need other people. Death is universal, shared by all and by sharing our experiences we are able to begin to understand not only what dying really means but also how our current society has created a false understanding of it, constraining the very nature of it, twisting it and distorting it into something unreal.

Earlier than, we had solely religion to information us an attempt to grasp death. But this has left us woefully unhappy with a bitter taste in our mouths. We?ve unanswered questions that demand to be acknowledged, that can?t be glad with unknown answers. Now, with the opening up of spirituality, we are extra geared up than ever before to discover the question of Death.

But, it takes courage. It requires us to just accept our own mortality, to question our own lives and ultimately our personal death. But we have already got the close expertise of loss of life standing on our doorstep. So the question remains. Do you invite in it, offer it hospitality and get to realize it as you?d an expensive buddy? Or do you slam the door in its face, deny its existence and thus deny your individual?

Analysis: The GOP race is now lining up for Romney

WASHINGTON (AP) ? It hasn’t been pretty, but the Republican establishment, the delegate math, the money and more are increasingly lining up in Mitt Romney‘s favor in the long and grinding race for the party’s presidential nomination.

The race will go on. Romney’s most dogged rival, Rick Santorum, is all but certain to claim more victories before the primary season ends.

And an astonishing admission Wednesday by one of Romney’s top aides ? that primary-season policy positions may be no more lasting than squiggles on a child’s Etch A Sketch drawing toy ? will hardly reassure Republicans skeptical about his commitment to the cause of conservatism.

“Everything changes” for the fall campaign, said Eric Fehrnstrom, prompting Romney himself to try and limit the political damage. “The policies and the positions are the same,” he said.

Still, Romney’s Illinois primary victory provided fresh evidence of electoral strength, produced a big delegate haul and paid an overnight dividend in the form of an endorsement from Jeb Bush.

“Now is the time for Republicans to unite behind Governor Romney and take our message of fiscal conservatism and job creation to all voters this fall,” said the former Florida governor, the man most often mentioned as a last-minute savior for the party, who could swoop into a deadlocked convention and emerge with the nomination.

Former Sen. Bob Dole, a Romney supporter, summarized Santorum’s position from the point of view of a man who lost his first try for the nomination before winning on the second.

“In every race, Romney is going to pick up delegates. Looking back at my race in 1988 … I should have gotten out, but I just kept going out there,” Dole said. “When you’re out of money and you don’t have the organization to buy TV, you have to take a hard look at it. As much as you don’t want to do that, sometimes you have to face reality.”

Much has changed since Dole last ran for the White House in 1996, including the emergence of super PACs that are allowed to raise money in unlimited amounts. That, too, is working to Romney’s advantage.

So far, he has benefitted from more than $32 million in television ads from Restore Our Future, the entity that played the major role in wiping out Newt Gingrich with attack ads in the days before the Iowa caucuses and again in the Florida primary. More recently it has turned its attention to Santorum.

For comparison purposes, the $32 million is more money than Santorum, Gingrich and Ron Paul plus super PACs supporting them have spent combined on television, and may be the reason Romney has been able to avoid dipping into his own personal fortune so far in the campaign.

Additionally, campaign finance reports released Tuesday showed that big donors to a GOP organization founded by political strategist Karl Rove have boosted their financial support for the Romney-aligned super PAC in recent months.

It’s taken months, far longer than anticipated, for Romney to begin to take charge of a race that he began with overwhelming financial and organizational advantages. His record as a Massachusetts governor, particularly his embrace of a requirement for state residents to purchase health insurance, has made it hard for him to win over doubting conservatives in the South and elsewhere.

“Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs,” he blurted out in one appearance, one of several utterances that suggest he doesn’t quite understand the financial woes facing millions of Americans in the wake of the worst recession in decades.

Yet in Illinois, he won more votes than Santorum and Gingrich put together, a far better showing than the grudging victories he eked out in Michigan and Ohio over the previous few weeks.

Romney’s delegate haul was even more impressive. He picked up 41, to 10 for his chief rival. That was hours after an aide to Santorum went on television to predict that the former Pennsylvania senator would win between 24 and 30.

There were more embarrassing moments for the former senator’s campaign. The candidate himself backpedaled after saying on Monday that the economy wasn’t the main issue of the campaign. “Occasionally you say some things where you wish you had a do-over,” he said later.

The calendar, too, is a problem for Santorum, his objections aside.

In a memo released March 11, his campaign said Romney’s claims of delegate superiority were based on “fuzzy math. … Simply put, time is on our side.”

In the days since, Romney has won 109 delegates, Santorum 44.

In The Associated Press count, Romney has 563 of the 1,144 delegates needed to clinch the nomination at the convention in Tampa, Fla., next summer. Santorum has 263, Gingrich 135 and Paul 50. That gives the front-runner more than half, a pace that will let him seal his victory by the time the primaries end on June 26.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results, and Santorum has every reason to anticipate victory on Saturday in Louisiana and elsewhere.

Yet the mid-range forecast is less than sunny for him.

He is not on the ballot in Washington D.C., effectively conceding 16 delegates in one of three primaries on April 3. Restore Our Future is already advertising on television in Maryland, the second of that night’s three contests.

Wisconsin, the third, is likely to be the next big showdown. Restore Our Future has already sunk $2.3 million into TV advertising in the state, getting the sort of head start that helped Romney come from behind in Michigan and Ohio, and prevail in Illinois. Santorum has so far spent about $50,000.

Then comes a three-week break, followed by primaries in Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Rhode Island and Santorum’s home state of Pennsylvania. If Romney and Restore Our Future challenge him there in Pennsylvania, he will be stretched to mount much of a campaign in the other states.

“Saddle up,” Santorum exhorted his supporters on Tuesday night after losing Illinois. He spoke not far from the historic battlefield at Gettysburg, Pa., where the tide turned decisively toward the better-equipped and financed Union in the Civil War.

“We’re almost there,” said Romney.

Albert Einstein had problems with authority in school, new online archives reveal

Einstein?s school certification, the famous E?=?mc2 ? equation in handwritten format, and a personal postcard are among the 80,000 items contained in the newly established Einstein Archives Online.

Now anyone with Internet access can peek into one of the most celebrated minds in science.

Albert Einstein’s complete archive is gradually becoming available through the?Einstein Archives Online. On Monday (March 19), the online archive debuted with roughly 2,000 documents, and the archival database lists all of the more than 80,000 documents that will ultimately be available. [Einstein's 'Biggest Blunder' Turns Out to Be Right]

The documents ? everything from personal letters to scientific manuscripts ? are held by the Albert Einstein Archives at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Einstein Papers Project at the California Institute of Technology.

The site’s gallery offers viewers a peak at Einstein’s high school certification, which he received upon finishing high school at 16 in 1896. It turns out Einstein was an excellent student, not a terrible one, as often said. However, according to the archives, he left because he couldn’t handle the strict discipline and authority.

The archive also contains images of one of only three existing manuscripts containing the famous E=mc^2 equation written in Einstein’s handwriting. This equation, which describes the relationship betweem energy, mass and the speed of light, derives from his?theory of special relativity. His 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics is also on display.

On the personal side, the archive contains a postcard to his mother Pauline in September 1919, which spoke of results of his research, led by British astronomer Arthur Eddington, during the May 1919 solar eclipse; this data confirmed a prediction made by?the general theory of relativity. It also spoke of his mother’s pain as her health deteriorated. The letter began: “Dear Mother, Good news today. H.A. Lorentz has telegraphed me that the British expeditions have definitively confirmed the deflection of light by the Sun. Unfortunately, Maja has written me that you’re not only in a lot of pain but that you also have gloomy thoughts. How I would like to keep you company again so that you’re not left to ugly brooding. ?”

The site was originally launched in 2003. Almost a decade later, a $500,000 grant from the Polonsky Foundation of London funded digitization of the 80,000 documents.
